Abstract
If social media have changed modes of communication and freed up speech, it's important to question how speech is regulated on platforms to prevent deviance linked to social media uses. In an approach focused on moderation practices (Gillepsie, 2018), verbal violence and rising conflictual tension (Moïse et al. 2008a; Fracchiolla & al. 2013), the study attempts to present, on the one hand, the moderation measures that frame publications on social media in France, and, on the other, it shows how deviance; in this case hate speech, circumvents the regulatory measures proposed by platforms as well as the texts and laws adopted by the State. Content analysis of the corpus reveals that, despite automated regulatory measures based on technology and legislative texts, certain forms of deviance, such as irony, veiled insults and racial stereotypes, continue to circulate in discursive spaces through a variety of strategies.
